In 1990, the owner had a vision of starting a club that catered to the taste of the African American gay community; something that had never been done before in the Greater Charlotte area. The Club Snuffy's became a major hit in the city and changed the landscape of the African American gay nightlife forever. After working with various club owners in the city, he then patiently waited until he could open his own bar/club. It took 19 years to achieve this dream. In December 2008, the steps of opening The Nickel Bar became a reality. His dream finally became true and The Nickel Bar was established February 6, 2009.

The Nickel Bar is a drinking establishment that caters to predominantly gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) clientele by providing a place where everyone can relax, socialize in an all mature environment.
